Water leakage through walls and slabs can lead to either architectural or structural defects. As leakage repair is often expensive and disruptive; we adhere to the principle of “do it right the first time”
Polyurethane Injection grouting is a waterproofing technique that uses expanding injected polyurethane to prevent water from flowing through voids or cracks typically in concrete. This is effective in solving water leakage issues, especially when applied on the underside of the seepage area or the lower floor ceiling where the leak occurs. When polyurethane is injected into the cracks of a structure, the mixture will react and in turn expand and toughen. It is used to stop water from flowing through structural joints and cracks.
PU injection grouting has become very popular over the last couple of years and is considered to be the most effective solution to inhibit water leakage. It is a very effective method to repair water leakages and it has a long lifespan. Because of the strong adhesive property of polyurethane, it can form a very strong bond with concrete or cement surfaces.
A typical process of PU injection grouting is:
- Holes are drilled through the surface of a wall/floor/ceiling
- Grout is injected through a high-pressure machine
- Grout expand to fill up the crack
- Injection is considered complete once an excess amount of unreacted PU is observed to appear from the crack
- Holes and cracks are covered and effectively sealed
Typical areas of application:
- Toilet, shower, and kitchen
- Concrete roof
- Balcony and patio
- Basement, foundation, and retaining wall
Advantages of PU Injection grouting
Polyurethane is a versatile polymer that has industrial applications for coating and insulation purposes. It is a strong adhesive and waterproofing material. As it is flexible and tough, polyurethane will protect well against membrane cracks and building movements that could compromise waterproofing effectiveness.
The fact that it is highly elastic provides it resistance to thermal expansion as well as deterioration due to exposure to sunlight. This makes it one of the most suitable methods for application on surfaces such as roofs and balconies.
It is also popularly used to repair active leaks due to its fast drying property and ability to seal tiny hairline cracks which are otherwise hard to spot. Because there is minimal drilling, boring, or material damage, polyurethane repair can be carried out relatively rapidly without disturbance to the work site. It is a relatively clean and low-cost solution. In addition, it requires little to almost no further maintenance. There’s no need to eliminate or destroy a structure or other structure. PU injection grouting approach removes the need to dig up the ground or ruin frameworks so it doesn’t have to be a major construction job.
