Swimming Pool Leak – All you need to know about Swimming Pool Waterproofing

Owning a swimming pool often comes with high maintenance as well as a huge financial liability especially when it breaks down. Swimming pools are often complex as it comes with a lot of different parts and components that make it function, as well as other variables that can potentially fail and result in expensive repair works. It is important that you do not ignore a problem, especially a swimming pool leak.

So, how do you tell that you have a swimming pool leak? Unfortunately, swimming pools lack instruments that can monitor the health of your pool system. There are no forms of “notifications” that you will receive. However, there may be early warning signs and symptoms that are not difficult to miss. As a pool owner, you need to be vigilant of these symptoms as these symptoms might be an indication of an underlying problem.

More often than not, you will notice that the water level in your pool is consistently dropping, or, there is an increase in your utilities bill. These are some of the obvious signs of a swimming pool leak. Once noticed, do not leave it unattended and be sure that you engage a waterproofing contractor immediately. Why should you never leave a swimming pool leak unattended? As water escapes your pool system it can start to accumulate in areas where it should not. Escaped chlorine water will then begin to damage metal components within the pool structure. Water may also travel through concrete and soil. As concrete is stronger, the soil around your pool is not. As soil is being washed away with moving water, the ground around your pool becomes unsupported, and may cause structural failures overtime.

So, what are the causes of a swimming pool leak? It can be Time; just about everything you own will eventually show signs of aging, same goes for your pool. Or it may also be problems with the pump and motors, plumbing problems or even structural damage. More often than not, structural cracks will be noticed as your pool age. As mentioned, these cracks will then allow the chorine water to seep through and affect the other areas around the pool.

At SWC Construction, we can help home owners to fill up these cracks and re-install the waterproofing works for your pool. We provide a non hacking and long lasting solution, that is High Pressure PU Injection Grouting. This method is an injection of liquid grouting material into the pool structure under pressure. During the grouting process, fissures (an opening or line of breakage made by cracking or splitting in structures) and pores are filled with the grouting material, which subsequently hardens and connects the disintegrated surfaces. PU injection grouting can help to fill the cracks fully as once the injection is administered, the foam expands to fill in the entire space of each crack. This fullness gives full coverage and protection from any water seepage. Another advantage of PU injection grouting is that the atmosphere’s moisture content does not matter. The foam can be injected into wet areas, which means you do not have to wait till the leakage area is completely dry before taking action against further water damage.
