Signs Of A Water Leakage

Outdoor and common areas are common root to water leakage problem. Waterproofing membrane in these areas starts to break down or worn out causing water to sip through. If left untreated, it would lead to serious water damage to its neighbouring area such as wall, flooring and paint. These are some signs to determine whether you need to consult a waterproofing contractor for repairs before things get worse.

Mould

Mould will spring up if you have a water leakage issue no matter how often and well you clean the house. Mould thrives on moist and dark areas, which is typically hidden in a wall. It provides the perfect starting point for mould if there is a leak. It is normal for a little mould to occur wherever water accumulates, such as in the corner of the shower. However, once you start noticing mould on the walls that does not have any contact with water, or in corners of your bathroom, it is a clear sign that there is a water leakage problem.

Damaged Paintwork

A wall with peeling paint or wallpaper is also another sign of water leakage issue. In most cases, paintwork or wallpaper would not come loose by itself. But when water and moisture gets in between the wall and paint, they will eliminate the bond and begin to separate

Damaged Walls

A wall that is stained for no reason is a very clear sign that you have a water-leaking problem. When a drywall is exposed to moisture, it becomes soft and begins to bubble, ultimately breaking into pieces. In order to fix this, one must ensure to consult a trusted waterproofing contractor, as one would need to tear out the drywall followed by patching and painting it back once the work is completed.

Damaged Flooring

Flooring rarely suffers from water damage unless there is a water leakage problem. If your flooring is cracking or beginning to stain for no apparent reason, there is a high possibility that you are experiencing a water leakage issue. The water could be from a pipe directly underneath the floor, or it could have travelled there from another area that is experiencing water leakage.

Stains On Ceiling

If you have a bathroom above, you might spot a leak in the ceiling under the bathroom. Check the patch of ceiling in the room directly beneath the bathroom for stains and signs of water damage. It is also possible to find water stains on the ceiling father away as water can also travel a long distance. An occasional wet floor in a bathroom above would not cause enough seepage to damage anything underneath. If you experience any brown or dark stain on the ceiling, it is a sign of a water leak in the ceiling.
