Leak Detection Report

Thermal Imaging or Infrared devices are one of the unique tools used for leak detection, it operates by capturing the surface temperature and are emitted as heat and reflecting as light. This light is a type of radiation that makes it visible. The image appears in various colours depending on the intensity of the infrared emission. A thermal camera records the temperature of the surface and assigns each temperature a shade of a colour which let us know much heat it radiates compared to the surrounding temperature around it. Hotter surfaces emit more of this light than cooler surfaces such as buildings or concrete walls.

Thermographic cameras are modern-day technologies that come in a wireless handheld device for their mobility and convenience. The characteristic makes these cameras incredibly useful to find out the temperature of a surface or object. This detector has thousands of data points so that it can detect subtle changes in temperature from about minus 20 degrees Celsius to 2000 degrees Celsius.

Technology has improved a lot, the best leak detector is now available to ease the troubleshooting of where the leak is occurring in the house, commercial and industrial areas. This innovative device will have all homeowners feeling comfortable knowing they are protected against water damage in their house.

A thermal leak detector can help to find the source of the water leaking problem especially if you suspect there is a leak in your home or business premises but don’t know where it is coming from?  It gives the owner peace of mind to find hidden water seepage without resorting to destructive testing.

Water leaks and moisture infiltration can cause serious damage to a house or building, some leakage can be difficult to detect with a visual inspection.

A thermal imaging camera is a non-contact thermal infrared imager with automatic temperature measurement that provides a real-time thermal and visible image. Its real-time is seeking the hottest and coldest spots of the thermal image so that you can accurately locate hot and cold spots.

Photos are taken with a click to save and it will capture the visible light image and the IR image to provide a colour palette imaging to identify the leak that naked eyes are unable to identify.

The infrared image on the left shows the real-time thermal reading of the temperature on the panel of the wall. The illustration imaging depicted in tones of blue and purple, clearly identified the dampness and moisture of the wall based on the average temperature of the room. For such a case, the average temperature is about 34.4 degrees. Any temperature below the average temperature will be the moisture level and leakage spot around the wall.

Colder temperatures are often given a shade of blue, purple, or green, while the warmer temperature can be assigned a shade of red, orange, or yellow. For example, in the image above, the wall is covered in shades of blue, and purple while other areas are green and yellow, that’s because the inner wall is wet/moist. Although we cannot see with our naked eyes on the surface of the wall.

The hotter a surface, the more infrared radiation it produces. Thermal cameras capture this radiation and convert it to an image.

Reporting method of leak detection

The infrared imaging report and temperature readings are analysed by the software application that comes along with the device. It provides an accurate and detailed analysis reading of the moisture and dampness to make repair work quicker and easier. This can help to narrow down the source of the leak and assist the owner and waterproofing contractor to save a lot of troubleshooting and repair costs. Using thermal cameras can locate the water spots that are trapped inside a structure and pinpoint structural repair before the condition gets worse.
